Vampire Dormitory – Just a Random Anime

Have you ever watched something completely at random? You close your eyes, pick something, and go for it. You don’t read a synopsis or review. You don’t even look at the picture. You just…watch it. Well, I did this last week.

Last week, I closed my eyes, clicked around, and landed on Vampire Dormitory. After the first episode, I thought to myself “this is corny”. 8 episodes later, it is 1 a.m. and I’m wondering how I got there. The next day, I finished the last four episodes. So, how did this show capture my attention?

Mito

Vampire Dormitory tells the story of Mito Yamamoto. Both of her parents died and she is living on the streets. At the top of the story, Mito loses her job because she is “too good looking” and for sleeping inside the business. I forgot to mention that Mito is living as a boy so that she can survive on the street. After she loses her job, she sits on the railing of a bridge on the verge of suicide. She slips and falls, but is saved by the mysterious and handsome Ruka Saotome.

Ruka

Ruka is a young vampire destined to be the lord of the vampires. But, he has to find his companion, a human woman that will be his lifelong vampire bride. But, he struggles with this. So, he decides to pour all his affection into the “boy” Mito. So, Mito goes to live with Ruka in his dorm.

Ren

It gets interesting when Ruka has a rival in Ren Nikaido. Ren is a “bad boy” who is a dhampir, which means he is half-vampire. Ren falls in love with Mito, even though Mito is supposedly a boy. He wants Mito to himself but also looks to protect Mito from Ruka. He becomes obsessed. Also, Ren’s father wants him to be the leader of the vampires. Ren and his family do everything possible to separate Mito and Ruka.

Crazy Love Triangle

There are a lot of complications in this story. Mito is trying to keep her secret and maintain her relationship with Ruka. Ruka is trying to contend with his growing feelings for Mito. Ren is obsessed. It’s a messy, somewhat cheesy soap opera that sucked me in. I had to know what happens to these characters, no matter how corny the dialogue could get.

I think I’m going to try another show completely at random. It was a fun experiment.

I’ll see you next time!
