Doctor Elise and Mr. Villain: Let’s Catch Up

Hello friends! How are you? I’ve been busy learning my new job and adjusting to my new schedule. I think I am finally starting to settle into things. So, we can get back to discussing anime.

Today, I want to catch up on our two shows: Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp and Mr. Villain’s Day Off. We will break from the societal connections between the shows and the anime. We will get into what’s going on in the shows and how I feel about them. Let’s go!

Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady with the Lamp

At this point in the show, Elise is taking the medical world by storm. Because she came from modern times, she knows how to perform procedures that the “Pride and Prejudice” doctors never saw before. Furthermore, her sweetness and innocence make an impression on everyone Elise encounters. Her romantic rival becomes her friend, and every man she encounters has a crush. The show also throws in a little medical education. More importantly, Elise is sacrificing a marriage to a prince to become a doctor.

Overall, this show is boring. The premise was promising. A terrible person is executed. She becomes a better person when reborn into the modern world. She returns her newly found values and knowledge to “Pride and Prejudice” times. The show also has some touching moments. Elise’s sensei, Graham de Fallon, has a wonderfully moving relationship with his maid.

The problem with the show is that there are not enough interesting bits. For the most part, the show is boring. It is a chore to watch this show. It feels cookie-cutter, with some medical elements jammed into some scenes.

Mr. Villain’s Day Off

This show is pretty simple, so there is a minor update. Mr. Villain still takes his days off to do whatever he feels like, likely staring at the pandas for hours. Everyone Mr. Villain encounters on his off time sees a kind person, not the outer worldly demon.

This show is a very “background noise” show. If I watched the dubbed version, I’d have it on in the background while I do something else. But this does not mean that I do not like the show. In fact, this show puts a little smile on my face. It is so cute and full of pandas. The “Villian’s” display of kindness is heart-warming. We all can take a page out of his book. The kindness part, not the destroying the world part.

Wrapping It Up

Well, that’s it for the winter season! These anime were a little too subdued for my taste, so I’m not leaving Spring 2024 up to fate. I am going to select my next two anime. They are Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi, also known as Mysterious Disappearances and season 4 of Demon Slayer. Also, I’m going back to reviews. The research paper format fell a little flat for me. So, the first episode of Mysterious Disappearances begins in two weeks. I hope to see you before then!
